The Long Night Ahead…

Citizens of Lideon,

The scholars of the land speak of a dangerous time, caused by the disturbance of certain powerful items scattered throughout the land of Lideon. Rumor has it that when these items are disturbed, the sun goes into remission, and the moon takes over the sky. While we don’t yet know what these items are, we are working hard to determine what they are, and why they have been disturbed. Lideon has many treasures, and some have long lost pasts that hide known stories of their true power. Be on the lookout for any enchanted items that you may not recognize. Report any strange items as soon as possible. We will update you in the near future with whatever information we have discovered.

The leaders of Lideon urge our citizens to band together and prepare for what may be an abnormally long night. Gather your resources, build shelters and ways to travel to one another’s homes safely. The darkness is coming…

Your’s in service,

Wyte Lyon, Keeper of Lideon

Servers UP!

Ok, guys and gals. Reconnect and enjoy 1.0. And for the curious, I still don’t know *what* was broken, but I pulled fresh updates of everything (I’ve been doing this once every few waking hours) and here we are.

Enjoy!

1.0 is Running.

It’s installed, and it’s not working. From what I can tell the client side app is looking for a version number higher than 1.0 (1.9, perhaps) and is therefore unhappy. Until this is solved, we are dead in the water. Stay tuned.

Wednesday’s Pre-Friday 1.9/1.0 Maintenance

EDIT: Completed!

We are gonna be offline for a bit (I’ll update here once we are back) while we do some pre 1.9/1.0 Map updates. This mostly affects old-school players/admins, but should make the overall experience better for everyone.

Hang in there! While the map updates are done, I’ll be tweaking some backend scripts again, taking from lessons learned recently.

Unseen changes.

I completely redid the back end permissions set. I gave every player a custom group, so that they can have a custom title and color. I also made the users organized by class (Player, Mod, Admin, etc) rather than by name. This made sweeping changes much easier.

In short, you didn’t see anything happen, but a lot changed. If you see anything strange, let me know!

SimpleServer Updated

Ok, so I found that logging in to the game to white-list people while at work was a hassle, and not feasible from the road in case of a server-side emergency. I contacted (via IRC) the main code writer for SimpleServer, and the following was added upon request:

http://bit.ly/vdpchD

Seriously. I requested new features (or the addition of missing thought-to-be-working features) and it was done in a matter of hours. I have total respect for Sadimusi and his hard work.

In short, this means we can do those commands via a console now, allowing user administration to happen from anywhere you can get a terminal session. This includes smart phones. So cool.

Also, we are the first server in the world to run this new version. Yup.

New Players, all Bronies!

Check it out; thanks to Reddit’s mylittlepony board, we now have a whole new slew of players.

I’d like to welcome the following Bronies to the server:

aiee_godzirra
apocalatte
chrisbob
felgraf
generaldonut
lotsofjam
mikeyfoxx
mokeymanq
mudkip1123
pompei
psychoduck
srsguy
supermatt314
tetsuraryuuken
undead_niklos
xdundurox
yuyuchan

That’s 17 new players today! I’ve been paying close attention and everything seems to be in order for a few information updates; that is, a proper rules page here, and a new admin appointment.

SpaceThief will be setup as an admin soon, and be helping during the day to keep things in order as needed.

Thanks to all of you for keeping things fresh and new! We’ll see you somewhere in the wilds of Equestria!

Interesting. We have a visitor.

A short list of players online...

SpaceThief reported that beds didn’t work, and there were no mobs spawning. I hopped online to do a player check to restart the server.

I don’t suppose this is a bug. I’d watch myself out there; no mobs now could mean a ton of mobs later.

Or just one.

Lideon Mansion

Lideon Mansion

It's pretty dark, dude.

Hey, I like posting things.

So here is the front of Lideon Mansion. I had initially though of making it in a palace style, but quickly learned my personal limitations.

The last map was a super grand historical recreation of a family line I had envisioned. However, it was a little too expansive, and difficult to manage. Here, I’ve tried to use the natural landscape to create a sort of single mad scientist style building. Right now it lacks a lot of nicer flooring, but is slowly being improved.

Note the skeleton that totally shot me just after this was taken.

The Underdark Project

Building the Underdark

The Underdark in it's early stages, with the Landing Pool

Whilst digging a mineshaft with a spiral staircase, I discovered a submerged ravine. That is to say, it was a natural ravine that had a completed ceiling, and wasn’t flooded. With 1 lava source and 2 water sources, I found it to be a good candidate for an underground atrium. As building progressed, I decided to work on an underground city, of sorts. Here you can see the ‘landing pool’; a solution for accidental missteps during the spiral stair assent.

The goal from here is to create a village here, then branch out into a handmade cavern with homes lining the vast walls. Lighting is something of an issue at this depth, so I named the area “The Underdark.”

Right now it houses one warp landing zone (WyteAtrium) as well as a small workshop, and a small netherrack room for a future portal to the nether.

As sparse as it is, I’ve been testing various grass seeding techniques. A 1 to 1 block step design takes ages to progress. I discovered (without reading about it first) that using 3 wide blocks tends to seed down faster, since there’s a but of code in place that randomizes what direction a block can seed. This seems to suggest that with 4 possible sides, a block with more than one side has a higher chance of seeding outward, whereas a block with one side open to seeding has a 1 in 4 chance of doing anything at all when it’s turn to seed arises. Of course, everyone else might have known this, but I do enjoy self-discovery now and then.
